About us

The Associazione degli Ingegneri Matematici (AIM) [Association of Mathematical Engineers] is an association founded on 03/06/2009 by nine students from the Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD programs in Mathematical Engineering. It was recognized by the Italian State on 20/11/2015 and by the Politecnico di Milano on 11/01/2016. AIM was created with the purpose of promoting the role of the Mathematical Engineer and building a network between current students and alumni to facilitate the exchange of advice, opinions, ideas, and proposals that can support both academic and professional paths.

In 2021, AIM and the PoliMi SIAM student chapter merged in order to provide better services to all students of Mathematical Engineering. Members

Members

Our association currently consists of 3242 students and alumni of the Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mathematical Engineering and the PhD in Mathematical Methods and Models for Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano.

Even after completing their studies in Milan, members remain in contact through the various activities organized by the association, working to build the network that allows each of our members to always find someone to exchange opinions with on academic and professional experiences, both abroad and in Italy. A network through which to build one’s future.

What we do

Events

Socializing: We organize various events to encourage integration among AIM members, strengthening the network of contacts and exchange of ideas and opportunities. Activities include parties, aperitifs, trips, sports tournaments, and more.

Orientation: Throughout the year, we host meetings where members can share experiences and advice. Topics range from choosing a university path to studying abroad to entering the job market.

Collaboration with the Department of Mathematics: We actively participate in several Department of Mathematics (DMAT) events where we can contribute. One example is MateDay, a meeting day between companies and students. We are also present at the Open Day to provide testimonies from the student’s perspective, as well as other occasional events.

Opportunities

Jobs and Internships: We receive internship, job, and project offers from some of the best companies in fields relevant to Mathematical Engineers. These are shared directly with our members.

Thesis and Research: In collaboration with the Department of Mathematics, we inform members about new thesis proposals, research grants, and collaborations from Italian and international universities.

Training

LaTeX Course: LaTeX is a language for creating documents and presentations, and it is the standard for writing theses and scientific papers. We organize an introductory course for students who want to start using LaTeX early.

Python Course: Python is a higher-level object-oriented programming language, widely used in the professional world, especially in Data Science and Machine Learning.

Conference Cycles: AIM organizes outreach conferences on mathematics in collaboration with some of the most renowned Professors of the Department of Mathematics at the Politecnico. Topics vary from finance to the history of mathematics, from statistics to modeling.
